Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis news organization reports the Siteman Cancer Network, a partnership with regional medical centers, has added a third hospital representing the network’s first Illinois addition—Alton Memorial Hospital.
Based in Alton, IL, Alton Memorial Hospital targets improving the health of people and communities through cancer research, treatment and prevention. What does membership in the Siteman network bring to Alton Memorial Hospital? It expands its connection as a member of BJC HealthCare to the nationally renowned Siteman Cancer Center, based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Network membership provides greater direct access to cancer prevention and control strategies as well as genomic and genetic testing. Patients also gain streamlined access to highly specialized treatments and technologies including clinical trials at Siteman. It offers its patients access to southern Illinois only comprehensive cancer center.

Scientists and physicians affiliated with Siteman hold more than $145 million annually in basic and clinical oncology research grants. The results of basic laboratory research are rapidly incorporated into treatment advances, which is enhanced by patient access to more than 500 therapeutic clinical trials, including many collaborative efforts with other leading cancer centers throughout the country.
