Two leading Utah research institutions seek to understand legal hemp. Once the 2018 Farm Bill was signed in December, legalizing industrial hemp products, University of Utah approached USU to research cannabis plants for medicinal use. The State of Utah, the headquarters of TrialSite News, is one of the most conservative states in the land.

Recently Utah voters passed medicinal marijuana.  Bruce Bugbee, a USU scientists leading the effort reports “cannabis plants have a hundred different useful compounds; there’s only one that gets you high.” Bugbee continued “cannabis is as old as the hills. For thousands of years people were using it for aches and pains.”
