U.S. Federal Government Names Hospitals Using Most EHR Data in Clinical Practice

Apr 18, 2019 | EHR, Electronic Health Records, ONC

The US Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) reports on actual electronic health record (EHR) data use around the nation. The most prevalent EHRs include Epic, Meditech and Cerner clinical research sponsors. This is a critically important market.

The U.S. is the largest drug market—hence the most important for clinical trials in the world. The increasingly use of electronic health records per Meaningful Use afford industry sponsors the opportunity for heretofore not feasible ways to identify potential matches for clinical trials. Whole new business models such as TriNetX are possible thanks to pervasive use of EHRs. Interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR combined with CDISC and others afford whole new opportunities to exchange data. See the link below for the actual study results.
