St. Jude Flu Grant

Jason Bolton of the Memphis Business Journal reports that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive up to $34.3 million over seven years to study how the flu virus can influence immune system development.  This builds on associations that have been connected for pandemic outbreak research between exposure early in life and susceptibility to flu infection.

Sponsored by the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) which funds investigators located at 12 medical and research centers.  These centers are located in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia and Nicaragua. The study will include over 3,000 children during the seven year period.
