Watch San Diego’s NBC 7 News to learn about Patricia Martinez. Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, the disease had spread to her spine, lung and liver. There was little hope as Ms. Martinez had already tried two clinical trials. But an investigator named Marilyn Ortuno Norton suggested she try a third clinical trial. Ms. Martinez signed up and the study has literally, according to Dr. Norton, saved her life.
The study is being conducted at the Sharp Chula Vista Barnhart Cancer Center; part of Sharp Healthcare, a not-for-profit integrated regional health care delivery system located in San Diego. Sharp includes acute care hospitals, three specialty hospitals, three affiliated medical groups and a health plan. Sharp employs nearly 2,600 physicians and more than 18,000 employees.
