President One of Largest Dominican Republic Private Health Systems Ivermectin has Helped Treat 6,000 Patients

The president of one of Dominican Republic’s largest private health systems, Rescue Group, interviewed by TrialSite, recently was profiled in Dominican Today with Doris Pantaleón. Dr. José Natalio Redondo, president of the Rescue Group, was recently profiled as a guest in “La Cita con el Covid,” a weekly broadcast. Dr. Redondo reports that at least 6,000 COVID-19 positive patients have been treated with excellent results with ivermectin—both by doctors from Group Rescue with health facilities in Puerto Plata, La Romana, and Punta Cana.

TrialSite Interview

On June 30, TrialSite founder Daniel O’Connor interviewed Dr. Redondo about the use of ivermectin in the Dominican Republic. With three major hospitals and 17 emergency hotel medical centers Dr. Redondo told O’Connor that his health system had at the time treated about 1,300 early stage COVID-19 patients with what Dr. Redondo described as dramatically positive results.

At Least 6,000 Treated

Now Dr. Redondo’s health system has treated at least 6,000 COVID-19 positive patients with what is reported to be “excellent results using the drug ivermectin.” Known in the market for 50 years, the antiparasitic drug has been used in the country since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to treat patients with SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Well-Known & Studied

Dr. Redondo shared in the interview that ivermectin includes advantages, such as the fact that the drug is well-known and studied extensively in humans for over 30 years and for about 45 years in animals.

Post-COVID-19 Aftermath

Dr. Redondo considered that health systems should continue to be strengthened because there is no doubt that the consequences of the disease in individual patients will last for months or years.

“There is no doubt that it is a disease that is shaking the foundations of science. I am convinced that the person who gets severe pneumonia from Covid will take two years to recover, even if he returns to his everyday life, the person with circulatory disease can take much longer to return to the previous recovery,” he declared.

Low incidence of COVID

Redondo said that currently, the incidence of the COVID virus had dropped considerably in the country.

For example, he cited that in the Bávaro Punta Cana area, it is only 10% compared to previous months, in La Romana Bayahíbe, it has dropped to 25 to 30% and in Puerto Plata to 50%.

He estimated that if it is possible to maintain this natural environment and specific interventions that have been made, it is in conditions without a doubt to receive tourists without any inconvenience.

He said that with the COVID, it is advisable to test the effect—that is, to continue opening the economy little by little, but observing and monitoring to re-restrict in case of an increase in cases, in addition to continuing to educate the population because much depends on citizen responsibility.
