Dr. Izzard Aglua works as a clinical research coordinator at the Sir Joseph Nombri Memorial Kundiawa General Hospital. In 2016 Aglua set up the clinical research center at the Kundiawa General Hospital. This is the first medial research center in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The PNG clinical research center has fostered clinical research collaboration with Australian partners including academics and researchers from the College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences and the Tropical Health and Medical Research at James Cook University, University of Sydney and others.
Dr. Aglua has initiated a major drive to promote clinical research and publications by local PNG doctors which will contribute to informing and changing the medical practices in the country, region, and world. His osteomyelitis study has identified drug-resistant bacteria causing bone infection in children as well as a new antibiotic regime to treat bone infection in PNG children.
