Osage University Partners Raises $273 Million for University Intellectual Property Deals

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Joseph Distefano reports PA-based Osage University Partners (OUP) seeks to leverage their success with university-originated intellectual property (IP) with the $273 million fresh capital.  Its third venture capital (VC) fund, the sole focus is to invest in another 40 to 50 start-ups based on underlying university lab research.  DiStefano reports that OUP has secured a number of “exclusive long-term contracts” giving it participation rights in start-up license agreements whose IP is owned by one of many universities including: University of Pennsylvania, Caltech, Columbia, Duke, Harvard, the University of Michigan and 13 other research universities.
