Allegan is stopping the sale of its textured implants immediately as growing links are made to a rare and deadly cancer. The FDA requested the voluntary recall from the biopharma company after a “significant increase” in cases of a particular type of lymphoma.

Women have been demanding that the FDA look at this for quite a while. CBS reports that there have been nine (9) deaths associated with red flags raised in 2011 regarding the safety of the implants and their possible link to lymphoma. The FDA has now updated information on the risk to women with both silicone and saline implants. 359 reports of cancer have been reported.
