New York-based gastroenterologist Daniela Jodorkovsky, M.D. reports that “the GI track is considered the ‘second brain’ because it contains many nervs, which send signals back and forth to the brain. Dr. Jodorkovsky posits “chronic stress and anxiety release signals back and forth to the brain.” Apparently a compound called corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) which can impact spasms or diarrhea as well as pain “signalling from the nerve figers of the gut to the brain.”
