Christine Chio, PhD, assistant professor of genetics and development at Columbia University Medical Center, recently was the recipient of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) Catalyst Grant. She has been recognized for among other things, innovative use of “organoids” or a way to grow clusters of cells three-dimensionally in a dish in an effort to investigate the behavior of pancreatic cancer cells. This process led to the identification of a potential new drug target.
