Butler & Rhode Island Hospitals Seek Patients for Alzheimer’s Disease Trial

Oct 16, 2018 | Alzheimer's Disease Trial, NIH

Michael Weiner calls for Alzheimer’s disease trial participation in the Providence Journal. The editorial author notes that “Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and affects 5.7 million Americans—including 23,000 in Rhode Island.”

Weiner notes that Alzheimer’s costs the country $277 billion annually—a true crisis. The trial, known as The Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, or ADNI— is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is focused on the detection of early Alzheimer’s disease and tracking its progression over time.
