Barrow Neurological Center Discover Critical RNA Processing Aberrations

Apr 19, 2019 | ALS, Neurology

MedicalXpress reports that the Barrow Neurological Center researchers discovered that a specific RNA processing protein, known as ADAR2, undergoes cellular mis localization and is found in a surprising region in neurons from postmortem ALS/FTD patient brain tissue. A consequence of the altered cellular localization points to dysfunctional brain tissue, and the altered cellular localization leads to dysfunctional RNA alterations which impact critical disease pathways involved in neurodegeneration in the most common subgroup of ALS/FTD patient brain tissue.
