Jan 26, 2019 | Animal Clinical Research

Fox News reports that researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Neuroscience have cloned five monkey babies from a single donor with genes edited to cause diseases. Discovering the news, animal welfare advocates have called the activity monstrous. According to the Fox report, the Chinese scientists tinkered with a specific gene in the original donor monkey to produce the unhealthy animals which they still say will help medical research. The scientists used the CRISPR gene editing tool to render the BMAL1 gene inoperative. The results of the research were published here.
