Academic Medical Centers Fare Better Than Community-based Hospitals for NSCLC Survival Rates

Nov 16, 2018 | Cancer Death Disparities, Cancer Research

Bryant Furlow from Cancer Therapy Advisor reports major academic medical centers evidence greater two year survival rates than community-based hospitals for metastatic non-small, cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Over all survival rates at academic medical centers over time were more marked. These findings originate from a Duke University, Duke Cancer Institute study recently reported in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology. The researchers posit that the reduction in survival disparity might require accelerated introduction of new treatment options in the community hospital setting.
