Aberdeen University, with funding from the government of Scotland and UK’s NHS, launches a first study exploring the links between the bacteria in an individual’s gut and dementia. The study team will coordinate with local care homes for participants. As reported in the Herald Scotland, the researchers must study comparisons of different participants’ bacteria composition levels and determine whether these influences cognitive decline in addition to behavioral symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
