Now part of Children’s Hospital Ireland (CHI), Crumlin Hospital has become caught up in an investigation as to whether it has been supplying DNA samples to third-party commercial vendor Genomics Medicine Ireland (GMI). They purportedly sent 1,500 DNA samples held at the hospital’s genetics department without adequate permissions, including consent. In some cases, the patients originate from other hospitals. Their data was sent to Crumlin for genetic testing, while others were taken from Crumlin itself, reports John Mooney from The Times.
