Cleveland Clinic researchers have undertaken a comprehensive study focusing on meta-analysis of five studies with more than 880,000 participants. Utilizing Mendelian randomization, they examined participants’ genetic variations. They were able to remove cofounding (outside) variables such as smoking, high blood pressure, etc. The study results reveal that obesity itself is an influencing factor in diabetes and cardiovascular disease—isolating it from factors such as high cholesterol and lack of exercise.

TrialSite News recently produced an original research article on the dangers of obesity to society on multiple fronts.
