Mike Milliard of Healthcare IT News reports that Amazon Web Services (division of Amazon) has joined Google and other cloud computing platforms in the STRIDES initiative, which is involved with the acceleration of medical innovation by making large troves of genomic research data more easily accessible. The STRIDES initiative (Science and Technology Research Infrastructure for Discovery, Experimentation and Sustainability) is a government-led initiative seeking to capitalize on private sector to make troves of big data available for researchers.  Every day, NIH transmits more than 8 petabytes of data cross its network.
